A 16-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a teenager who died after being stabbed in a park in Luton, Bedfordshire Police said on Sunday, as officers pressed on with inquiries and urged the public not to share disturbing footage of the incident.
Police confirm charges and further arrests
Emergency services were called to Kingsway recreation ground shortly after 6.30pm on Friday following reports of a group of young people seen with knives. A 17-year-old male was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds and later died. The force has not yet publicly named the victim.
On Saturday two youths — aged 16 and 17 — were arrested on suspicion of murder after initially being detained on suspicion of violent disorder. The 16-year-old has now been charged with murder and was remanded in custody, Bedfordshire Police said. Three further 17-year-old males have been arrested on suspicion of murder, violent disorder and carrying a weapon.

Investigation under way and public appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardener, leading the inquiry, said officers continued to investigate and were appealing for anyone present in the area or who witnessed events leading up to the disorder to come forward. He said the force was maintaining high-visibility patrols and engaging with residents.
"We are progressing our investigation and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who was in the area, or witnessed the events leading up to the disorder, to please get in touch."
Police urged the public not to circulate distressing videos or images from the scene, warning that sharing such material can be distressing for families and may hamper the investigation. The force said such footage could also form a vital part of its inquiries.
Local councillor Zanib Raja, who said she first learned of the incident via social media, similarly discouraged online sharing of purported footage. She described the attack as "horrific" and said the spread of disturbing videos served only to traumatise relatives and stoke fear in the community.
"Like many of you, I became aware of this horrific attack through disturbing videos circulating online. Let me say this clearly: Do not share them. They traumatise the family, fuel fear, & do nothing to help."
Community impact and policing response
The stabbing occurred in a public green space that many local people said they had grown up visiting. Councillors and residents described the park as a place for families and children, and expressed shock that such violence took place in broad daylight.
Bedfordshire Police said officers would continue visible patrols in the area and work with partners to reassure the public. The force reiterated the need for witnesses to come forward, and for anyone with mobile footage to preserve it and contact detectives rather than circulate clips online.
