Planned works across the town could affect journeys
Motorists and residents in Ballymena are being asked to plan their journeys in advance this week as a series of scheduled road and lane closures take effect across the town and surrounding routes. The closures, which are for water and gas connections, network works and railway bridge inspection, will operate on set dates and times and are expected to cause only short delays in most locations.
Authorities say traffic management measures will be in place at the affected sites. The notices accompanying the works indicate that traffic controls will operate and that "
delays of up to 5 minutes are expected" at the majority of locations.
Locations, reasons and timings
The programme covers several streets within Ballymena and nearby Carnlough. Key schemes are as follows:
- Moorfields Road, Ballymena — lane closure from the entrance of No.118 to the entrance of No.122 from Wednesday 12 August, 09:30 until Friday 14 August, 16:30. The work is required for a full-service water connection (road crossing).
- Woodside Road, Ballymena — lane closure outside No.15 Woodside Park from Wednesday 12 August, 09:30 until Sunday 16 August, 16:30 for installation of a new gas service to that property.

Local impact and advice
Although most schemes list only brief disruption — typically delays of up to five minutes — residents have experienced how small hold-ups can ripple across the town at peak times. The mix of daytime lane restrictions and overnight full closures means drivers should allow extra time, particularly on links used by school transport and delivery vehicles.
Road users planning essential journeys through affected streets are advised to consult local traffic updates and follow temporary signing at site. Contractors have been instructed to operate traffic controls where necessary. Businesses, freight operators and public transport providers serving these routes may wish to adjust schedules accordingly.
Further information or updates are usually published by the relevant utilities and council channels; motorists should check those sources if their journey will use any of the streets listed.
