The Headland’s long‑running summer spectacle is back. Hartlepool Carnival returns for its 103rd year on Thursday 30 July, promising ten days of fun for families, community groups and visitors to the town.
Rides, stalls and a sci‑fi theme
Murphy’s Funfairs, regular supporters of the event, will arrive on the Town Moor and open to the public from 2pm, offering a mixture of classic fairground attractions and new additions. Alongside traditional dodgems and waltzers, organisers have confirmed a giant wheel and a Star Fighter ride as new features this year.
The carnival committee have chosen sci‑fi as this year’s special theme, reflected across several events and the parade. A number of returning acts will take part in the procession, including a bagpipe band and the Morris Miners Owners Group, while local multicultural group TransformersHPL will again support the parade with a colourful float.
Free community events and family highlights
Volunteers on the Hartlepool Carnival Committee are staging a range of free events, supported by local residents and businesses, leading up to Parade Day on Saturday 8 August. Murphy’s Funfairs are also running two days of free entertainment featuring foam parties, party dances, games and a magic show.

- Evenings (Friday 31 July and other nights): Fireworks display on Elephant Rock, with a show on the Friday evening due to start around 9.45pm in association with Murphy’s and Med Ltd.

Organisers say the carnival is a chance for the whole community to come together. In a short statement the committee said:

The Headland Club will host a Table Top Sale on Saturday during the programme, while judged competitions for the best dressed houses and businesses aim to encourage residents to take part along parade routes. The carnival’s continuing partnership with community groups such as TransformersHPL highlights the event’s diverse local appeal; group representative Gina Mainoo said the carnival is “something we believe brings the community together.”
