Officials met with South Dorchester residents in Church Creek on Monday evening and have said they will continue discussions in Cambridge and East New Market. The engagement drive is being run by county councillors with support from external consultants charged with helping shape the strategic plan.
Speakers at the meetings emphasised that the plan is intended to reflect residents’ priorities. County Council member Rickey Travers described the listening exercise as fundamental to the process, saying the meetings are helping elected members understand how constituents want county business handled.
“How do we know how our constituents want us to handle the county business? That’s the biggest thing right now. And that’s and that’s what we’re getting. We’re getting their decisions, their ideas, their thoughts on how we’re handling some things. And so that we’re just trying to get it to make it work.”
Consultants supporting the plan have also underlined a community-centred approach. Frank Grossman, one of the consultants, told reporters the process should be accessible and driven by residents.
“This is their plan. They are the residents. This is the plan is geared for we want to be as accessible to all parts of the community. And so we want to take these meetings to where folks are to make it easy for them to get there.”

Organisers said public sentiment at the early meetings has been positive and that they hope to build momentum through continued outreach. Grossman said there was a growing sense of optimism across the county and urged residents to take part.
“There’s like a growing sense of optimism in Dorchester County, and that that’s something that that feels great. Right. And so ask people to be part of it. Join in. Right. Make their voice heard, be part of the process.”
