Leicester-born defendant found to have played a key part in fatal attack
A man from New Parks, Leicester, has been sentenced after admitting manslaughter for his involvement in the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old outside a bus station in Bedford in January 2025. The victim, named in court as Tom Taylor, died following what the judge described as a "brutal and needless" attack.
Ahmed Adam, who was 18 at the time of the killing and has recently turned 20, pleaded guilty to manslaughter during a retrial earlier this year. On 21 July he was handed a sentence of six years and eight months at Luton Crown Court.
Court heard he helped locate victim's group before violence
Prosecutors told the court that Adam was one of five teenagers who stood trial following the attack. The fatal incident occurred shortly after Adam spotted Tom and two others at around 5.50pm in Greenhill Street, Bedford. The court was told Adam called out to his associates and moved towards the group, initiating the confrontation during which another teenager produced a knife and stabbed Tom.
That teenager, 19-year-old Bennett Ndenkeh, was convicted of murder last year and was the person who carried out the fatal stabbing. Another defendant, 18-year-old Riaz Miah, was convicted of manslaughter. The jury initially failed to reach a verdict in Adam's first trial, leading to the retrial where he eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The court also heard victim impact statements from Tom's family. His grandmother told the court that the attack had destroyed many lives and described Tom as having had his whole life ahead of him. His aunt said he was "a kind, funny and loyal young man with his whole future ahead of him".
Judge: significant role in planning and search
Sentencing, Judge Simon said Adam had played a "significant, if not leading, role" in searching for Tom's group on the night. The judge described the death as needless and brutal, reflecting the gravity of the events that followed Adam's actions.
The court heard the attack was carried out in retaliation for an earlier assault on 18-year-old Riaz Miah by someone linked to Tom. Bedfordshire Police have characterised the killing as an incident of senseless violence in response to earlier events.
